Children's Health Expo

On Sunday, Rahel and I traveled to Vallejo with the Weimar elementary school teacher, Rebecca, and Esther, a student teacher, to help with a children's health expo.  There was the general health fair held by the Vallejo SDA church, and then for the children they asked Rebecca to put on a children's health expo.  I have never helped with an expo specifically made for children, so it was a new experience.

It was such a blessing!  Here are some pictures I took--the lighting was really bad, but hopefully you can get an idea of what it was like. :)

This was the main area for the adults.  They had cooking demos and lectures...

...And the regular expo. Another group from Weimar headed up the massage area.

And here is where we were.  The kid's expo uses the NEWSTART acronym, but in just a condensed version

Working on the nutrition craft.  This is where I spent most of my time.  The kids would get a little passport to health, and each time they finished a station, they would get a stamp in their passport.  I would also tell them why it is important to eat fruits and vegetables.

Rahel teaching about exercise, and how to check your pulse :)

Helping at the Nutrition station

Rebecca teaching them the importance of drinking water

This picture turned out blurry, but this gives an idea of the exercise booth. The kids enjoyed it!

It was such a blessing to help out with this--definitely a new experience, yet so fulfilling!  I got to help at the Trust in God booth, where I got to pray with a couple of children--something I won't forget.  It is so touching to see how you can reach out to even children! I hope to have another opportunity to do this again!

An R&R Weekend!

R&R Weekend: A weekend that we as a college put away homework and studies and go somewhere to rest, relax, and have fun and fellowship.

This semester, we went to Leoni Meadows--it was an awesome weekend!!!!

We hopped on the bus Friday morning and headed to the camp

Arrived!

A beautiful pano of the valley

Friday afternoon, we had the opportunity to do a little rock climbing.  It was my first time doing it, but God taught me a huge lesson on faith.  The first time I went, I got stuck with nowhere to go.  I was holding on for dear life--I was almost halfway up, and my arms and legs were shaking terribly.  I knew I couldn't just stay there, but it was a long ways down!  And I would have to just let go....I would need to put my trust completely in the rope.  I struggled for awhile, trying to decide what to do, but finally I knew I needed to get down because my muscles were giving out.

It was very hard to just let go, but as soon as I did, the rope let me down gently and slowly to the ground.  I have always known what faith is, but I am so thankful for this reminder that God gave me--it was such a clear demonstration of faith, I will never forget it!  I want to put my complete trust in Christ!

Getting ready to go!

Jessa, Rahel, and Kelly

After the train ride, several of us went on a 6 mile hike, and to be able to make it back in time for supper, we had to run most of the way.  It was awesome!--and, we made it back right on time! :)

Sabbath night, after worship, we went go karting!  It was probably my favorite activity the whole weekend!  I drove once, and I was a passenger once.  I never drove so fast in my life!

You can't pass us! :)

I am so thankful for weekends like this where we can spend time together as friends, and also spend more time with God.  I think the biggest thing I took away from this weekend was the lesson on faith.  I was also able to study it a little more on Sabbath--it was truly a blessing!

And now--back to studying!

Dental Clinic

Just this last Sunday, our campus had a free dental clinic for the community.  It was such blessing to be able to help those who came!  I was able to help a little with parking, as well as direct people from the screening area to triage.  We were able to see about 95 people.  Here are some pictures:

I got there about 6:45am, and at 7am, people started arriving!  This is the line for registration

Registration!  Stacey is helping there

This was the health expo, where people could go through while waiting to be seen by the dentist

Another waiting room

People just about ready to be called in by the dentist.  We had six dentists there.

Students had the opportunity to do dental assisting

It was such a blessing to be able to help these people!  Many were so grateful for the help they received, and I hope they can continue to see Jesus in us!
